So you think you're a very professional and experienced social media marketer while all those experiences you have are just in your personal accounts? Well, news flash: You' might not be as great as you thought you are! One way or another, you're definitely doing something wrong. It might not be two or three but a lot. I'ts a good thing I made a list for you.
1. You're missing out a lot of opportunity
Let me tell you a story about a friend of mine who uses pinterest to post on her facebook pages. Don't get me wrong, she's doing the right thing extending her social media accounts to her audiences. But what she's doing wrong is, instead of making her own blog and promoting it using pinterest to her facebook page, she promotes other blogs. Its such a waste, don't you think? The traffic should be given to her blog or website, but instead its being swallowed by the blog she's posting on facebook. I did told her to pin the article on her board first so that her facebook fans could follow her on pinterest as well. But she didn't. So kids, the lesson here is: If you see a good, stable and promising marketing opportunity, grab it!
2. You're only using Facebook and Twitter
There are a lot of social media websites out there and its not just these top two babies. Although they drive great traffic, the possibilities of having lot of results once users type in your website on google's search tab is endless. Why not try typing in your website name on google? I bet it won't reach until page 4. Make sure your website is available on all social media sites where your audience can follow you. There's linkedin, google plus, instagram, tumblr, flickr, etc. etc. etc. If you're having a hard time organizing all of those social media accounts, you could use online tools like hootsuite and buffer to help you with that.
3. You're bombarding your posts with too much links
What would you feel of you were tagged on facebook with a lot of links, all of it saying "click here" or "visit our website" or "go to our website". It looks spammy, doesn't it. You'll stress your audience with too much information. How would you feel if a random stranger would walk to you and told you all about the theories of the universe? You'd feel awkward about it and walk away as far away from him as possible right? Same here. So don't overload your audience with too much.
4. You're using the wrong keywords
This is one of the common mistakes that a lot of people out there. Some people would tag every noun in the sentence as the keyword, or would use the entire sentence. Yes, they would even use #is, #are, #to as keywords. You have to keep in mind that not all people on the internet types "What is the color of a unicorn". A lot would type in "Unicorn color" instead of typing the entire question. Its as simple as telling your crush your preferences on a man: has loads of cash, has a car, has abs, has a stable and promosing job, with good looks, caring, romantic, gentle and undestanding - then he told you that he doesn't even have half of those and starts not liking you. Its the same as keywords. If you use only the wrong or too much number of words, people won't be able to either find you or fancy you.
5. You're quiet
They say silence is golden. Well, not in this internet world. You have to remember that the world wide web was created for people to make noise. People in the internet don't want to visit something that's empty or only has a few posts in it. There's nothing to read or know about it. What would you feel if you walked into a pie store and they don't have pie, just chairs, tables and the cashier counter? Its a waste right? So make sure to put some color on your accoounts. Make some noise every once in a while.
6. You're not responsive
You hate being seenzoned on facebook, same as here. People don't like it when their messages, replies and posts are ignored. So if some one tries to talk to you, reply back. Even if its just a simple thank you or hello, people appreciate it that they're talking to someone and not something. Try replyin back as well even if its a critic or something negative and ask them how would they like you to improve. If you like giving advise to your friends, so are they. It also shows that you're open for new ideas and changes.
7. You're not personal
This is something that people on twitter are missing. Though you can also use this on facebook (but not linkedin please), internet people don't like talking to robots who does nothing but promote all day all night. People like talking to people and they like it when they can relate to things with them. Telling your audience a little about yourself gives you that aura that you trust them, and they would eventually trust you back. Besides, its also fun when your audience get to reply back to these kind of posts. You would find similarities and talk about it.
So tell me, how many of these are you when you do social marketing? Well, its about time you start doing something different. You don't want to do your public speaking without a microphone, do you?
